Pillar 3 – Our People

Our People

As a global company, we recognise that we have a significant responsibility to safeguard all our employees at all sites.

We have stringent policies in place to ensure the health, safety, wellbeing, and ethical practices at all our operations. We are voluntary members of independent monitoring
organisations who oversee our global compliance with these policies.

Our fully owned factories are audited using the Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA), a social auditing framework that aims to support business practices across
labour standards, universal rights, management systems and health and safety. Sedex and SMETA are underpinned by the Ethical Trading Institute and the Internal Labour
Organisation.

Portwest has also achieved the WRAP Gold Standard, the world’s largest, independent, factory-based compliance programme for responsible production in the sewn product
sector, at our largest manufacturing facility in Bangladesh.

Conducting our business in a manner that respects the rights and dignity of all

Portwest fosters a culture of continuous learning and development. Our Learning & Development and Employee Development Policy applies to all Portwest staff, whether in our head office, sales offices, warehouses, or manufacturing sites, ensuring every employee can reach their full potential.

Health and Safety

As Portwest continues to grow, we continue to invest in health and safety, making the lives of our colleagues better every day. Our on site health and safety teams are
responsible for implementing improvement projects, ensuring all health and safety training is in place and are putting safety at the forefront of our operations. Our Global Health and Safety manager works alongside our operational teams ensuring consistent standards are adhered to and is continuously working to enhance our reporting systems to meet regulatory requirements.

Portwest has implemented ISO 45001 at sites covering over 51% of our employees, which is an International Organisation for Standardisation standard for management systems of occupational health and safety.

Human Rights and Labour

The Portwest Group’s Global Labour and Human Rights Policy reflects our commitment to upholding internationally recognised human rights, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labour Organization’s Core Conventions. Our Human Rights section of our Policy addresses each of these key areas:

  • Child Labour, Forced Labour and Human Trafficking
  • Working Conditions
  • Employee Health and Safety

In addition, all employees and suppliers are required to adhere to our Ethical Trading & Code of Conduct Policy, which defines standards for fair working conditions throughout our business and our supply chain and is guided by the International Labour Organisation.
